Famous Buttercream Frosting.

Jump to Recipe

I started a cake business almost 15 years ago. I specialized in buttercream cakes and cupcakes. I made all kinds of cakes, you name the occasion. Wedding cakes were my absolute favorite to make, and worst nightmare to deliver. Delivering through downtown roads of cobble, or dirt roads leading to a gorgeous barn in the hot Florida heat was not my cup of tea. I still get sweaty hands and stomach ulcers thinking back on those deliveries. But it was always worth is when I got to the venue, set up the cake, and was able to see my final creation in all its glory. I couldn’t take enough photos (mainly because photographing a cake is not as easy as it looks).

Like I said, I specialized in buttercream cakes… in Florida. The amount of buttercream cakes that were ordered for an outdoor wedding is still mind boggling to me, but these girls and their venues made it work. On a few occasions I’d have a bride ask, “Will the cake be ok?” I wanted to say, “A buttercream cake in the middle of the hot Florida sun?! The cake will melt and so will your guests!!” But I didn’t… And I never had a cake melt, completely…

Now, when I say buttercream I mean REAL buttercream. None of that fake Crisco cream you get from the store or the imitation vanilla that makes you want to gag. I’m a firm believer that your final product will only be as good as the ingredients used. So this means real butter and real vanilla. I can hear ya’ll screaming, “yes and amen!” Now, this also means the color will be a little off white, but I’m telling you the flavor will be amazing. Over the years I’ve been asked for this recipe over and over. I’m so happy to finally be sharing with you all!

Love,

Leisha

Famous Buttercream Frosting

The best buttercream for decorating your cakes!
Cook Time 15 minutes
Total Time 15 minutes

Ingredients

  • 1 lb Salted Butter softened to room temperature
  • 1 lb Powder Sugar sifted
  • 2 tsp Pure Vanilla extract

Equipment

  • 1 Standing Mixer
  • 1 Spatula

Method

  1. Add butter to standing mixer. Mix on low for about 5 mins until the butter is a pale yellow.
  2. Slowly add in the powder sugar 1 cup at a time. Go slow or you'll have powder sugar everywhere.
  3. Add in vanilla halfway through adding powder sugar. This will make it easier to mix in the rest of the sugar.
  4. Remove from the mixer. You're ready to decorate your cake!
